Lennart Poettering did it again. Systemd is growing. Now it is supposed to take over home directories. Like every shit which was introduced by systemd I expect a creepy process here. First, it is optional and then I install a *BSD! I don’t now what else systemd is supposed to take over. Perhaps the kernel as systemd-kerneld? Perhaps we should call the OS Poetterings instead of Linux in a few years. In hindsight, I consider systemd as the greatest mistake ever introduced into the Linux ecosystem. And it is not about some of the concepts of systemd, which sound reasonable and useful, but their implementation. The capabilities of systemd are really limited compared to RC scripts. While it seems to be a nice tool, it lacks documentation and more important it lacks freedom. There are many ways to deploy systems which are easy to implement with RC scripts and impossible with systemd. A reasonable approach would be to fix everything wrong with systemd first, and extend it afterwards. “Modern software engineering” sucks! Just look at systemd bug reports at some distributions. They will rather hire someone to comfort people and try to enforce codes of conducts than fixing a problem. No wonder more and more former Linux users move to the few distributions left that refuse to use systemd or to one of the BSDs.
